Chavez Is At It Again

See, when socialists decide they like something, they just take it. The pretense in this case was that the Cargill plant seized by the Venezuelan government "...did not meet production levels required by...." Well, you can read it.

Our government is taking over "failing" firms by robbing taxpayers instead of just going in with AK-47's strapped over their shoulders. Instead of letting the large banks and car companies fail, we threw billions of taxpayer dollars at them when they were going to fail anyway. Now "we" own them. Isn't this really the same thing? Didn't we just take over failing companies instead of productive ones?

Your government took the money from you instead of just taking the company. All in an attempt to save "capitalism". There are so many contradictions wrapped up in all of this that it is difficult to sort through.

The definition of socialism is something like this: An economic theory advocating the collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods with an egalitarian method of compensation. This is my hybrid definition taken from several different sources.

I don't think we are even close to being there yet. However, it seems to me that with the de facto nationalization of several large financial institutions and auto companies this is where we are headed.

We should have let those institutions fail and used all of that taxpayer money to pay off depositors through the FDIC. All of that money should have been enough to give FDIC the funds needed. Were we really trying to save the shareholders and creditors of these large institutions when we should have only been concerned with making depositors whole?
